TheReptileWhisperer
Добавлен 30 мар 2009
I started this channel to share my love of reptiles and amphibians. I used to work with a reptile rescue so you will see some rescues on here as well as my pets and breeding projects. I have bred many species of reptile but my main project is tree monitor lizards of the prasinus complex. I also like to field herp in my spare time so occasionally you will find those on here. I have care videos on several species as well as videos about taming, parasites, illnesses(fungus, bacterial, etc) and Metabolic bone disease. There's also a few Q & A videos. Friends and family have nicknamed me "the reptile whisperer" because I seem to have a way with them, I haven't yet met one I couldn't tame down. "Tame" is really just getting an animal to trust you. I am very gentle and kind with my pets and so they trust me...watch the videos and you will see for yourself;)

I bought this one at big juvenile size, not a baby like my other one. Love your videos! This one was really helpful and I'm wondering if you have a link or name of the water cups you got off of amazon. I haven't been able to find them when I search. Thank you!
Thanks! @@TheReptileWhisperer thank you so much! I just ordered some :-)
@@ReptileRoad You are welcome!
Is this a T+ Albino or a T- Albino?
Supposed to be T- but it's hard to say because I would think T- would have red/pink eyes but I have never seen an albino Tokay with red/pink eyes. I've also seen T+ which look different than this, they are a little darker and are not orange and white.
Look like a T+ to me coz some pigmentation still there and you’re right coz T- have more White and contrast in them , but then again the T+ have more color in them , either or she’s still an awesome Specimen 😮
Thats a cool looking one too! Congrats!!
Thanks!
Little dude was born hungry
😂😂😂
Nil monitor and ornate Monitor are different species ornate are more massive have shorter neck and pink tongue
People used to think they were different but scientists took DNA samples and learned that they are actually the same species. I know, it's crazy but true.
@@TheReptileWhisperer they are different species I have the nil and the ornate and they are completely different they are related but not exactly the same species just like the dog you have different pitbull they look the same but are not the same exactly and they discovery that the nil and the ornate are not the same species because they tough that was the same but now they said it's the same species but I can said for having the 2 species they are completely different even if the adn are the same
Fab video I hope to get 2 or maybe 3 on Tuesday … how do I tell the female fro male?
Females are either green or peach/brown. Males are the colorful ones with red around the eyes.
Are they captive bred or wild caught?
These are wild caught. Captive bred is rare.
He such a beautiful gecko and is also pretty calm for a tokay gecko too I usually see them trying to straight up murk their owner😂🤣
Wow you been working with TM for 13years.🫡
He is a big boy. Do prasinuses get that big too? Or is he that big because he is a hybrid?
Prasinus doesn't get this big, but kordensis does. He mostly takes after kordensis. His eyes are a little more orange like a prasinus though. He is the sweetest lizard.
chonky as all high hell... seen an indonesian video of a 15 yr old tokay that was 4 ft long.. these fuckers get HUUUUUGGGEEE
how are you gonna go about breeding them , any information available that would help you ?
There is no information. No one has done it in captivity yet. My plan is to do the same thing I do with tree monitors but on a larger scale, since these are bigger monitors. I figured out how to breed tree monitors around 16 years ago when only a few people in the world had been successful. It was trial and error to see what worked and what didn't. I'm going to do the same thing with the tricolors and figure it out 😊
@@TheReptileWhisperer that would be so cool , good luck mam
That's a beaut.
There's a German saying: "'Geht nicht' gibt's nicht!" Rough translation: "'Unfeasible' isn't a thing!" I think it applies here... 💚💚 🤭
The lizard overlords shall spare you! ✌💚🦎
🐅 stripes! 🐆 spots! 💙 And a sky blue tail!
VERY COOL!!! I've always wanted to have one of these guys... But even more so, I think I need some spinulosis in my life!
The Spiny neck monitors are really pretty 😍 I love their faces and coloration/patterns. They are super active too!
Absolutely beautiful! Both of you ) . Thank you for sharing. 🫡🇺🇸💪🏽🙏
Thank you!
Beautiful! 😎 💚🖤💚🖤💚🖤💙
Thank you!
Absolutely amazing 🙌 keep up the great work
Thank you! 😊
Beautiful monitor. I would love to see his enclosure.
The autofocus (?) seems to love the background tho, crispy sharp. 😅 It helps to have a background with less contrast and details. Anyways, thanks for the super chill lizard time. ✌💚
Yeah I am not very good at taking videos 😂 Sorry about that
I love this lizard so much, all these hues. 🥺 💚 Seems so chill too. The dark spots and stripes remind me a bit of the patterns of a "clouded" bengal cat.
Yes I can see that! Definitely some type of wild cat vibes with the stripes and spots. I'm about to post a video of my bigger Tricolor. It's even prettier than this little one 🤩
Do you breed them ? Want one
Yes, but I don't have babies yet.
@@TheReptileWhisperer I will definitely buy a pair let me know when you get some
@@eSeRh1nO Will do!

How exciting
What a gentle animal. Glad he found a home with you. He deserves to be well cared for.
He’s adorable.
Thanks!
Gorgeous! Glad you rescued him and gave him a better life 😊
Thanks!
I don’t think it likes you
I think it's neutral at this point. I haven't held it much since I've gotten it, so it's not fully trusting. But it also doesn't run or try to bite, so I know it doesn't dislike me. I just need time to work with it, but at the moment I'm super busy.
Best of luck with them.
Thanks!
So cute!
Thanks!
What a beauty. Thanks for the closeup. 💚👌
You're welcome 😁
Sooo pretty. 🥺 I just like green lizards (and snakes) the most when it comes to color. Maybe it's the silly cliche, but I find it snazzier than dark brown or grey. 😁 Is the "shower" an electric pump, or one of these big plastic spray bottles where first pressure is built up by pumping a lever for a while, then water can be sprayed continuously as long as there is pressure? 😁 I had one in use for ferns and some other plants that needed moisture. Less work than a simple spray bottle. 😅
Yes, I use a gallon sprayer for watering all the reptiles. I love green reptiles too ❤️
This monitor is so calm and well behaved, not at all scared. 🥺 Was it so well socialized from beginning? 💚
No, this is the first time holding it. It's wild caught and was just shipped to me that day. I think the way I hold it helps to calm it. I don't restrain, but rather let it walk in my hands. I think it realizes that I'm not going to hurt him. This is how I tame all my monitors.
Are they hard to keep?
I've been taking care of them the same way I do for my tree monitors. They eat more though and they will get much bigger. I think they get around 5 ft.
Amazing congratulations
Thanks!
Do they need uvb? Edit: Never mind… I read the description just now lol
She looks so adorable!🥰
Thanks 😊
If he is captive bred , where did u go to aquire him?
No one has bred this species in captivity yet. She is wild caught. I'm going to try breeding her once she grows up.
@@TheReptileWhisperer wow great temperment for wild cought!
@@Jesusisking83592 I agree! I think it's because it was very young when I first got it. I bought her in October I think, so I've had her a few months. I set her up in my living room so she can see people often. I think this helps monitors to start losing the fear of humans.
beauty
That was a big yawn 🥱 must be sleepy
Thanks for the video and for being an animal lover.. I hate the thought that some people and in general the state considers them invasive 😢. I hate people who are mean to animals or shoot them for target practice... etc.. they are magnificent creatures.. We don't have wild iguanas here in Orlando where i live.
I agree with you. It's so sad how some people treat these sweet iguanas. They are just trying to live. If I could, I would rescue them all and find homes for them.
That was super fast reply!! I decided to subscribe to you since you're an obvious animal lover.. you probably like animals more than people like me! Lol.. I'm a little on the autism spectrum... animals keep me sane!!. It's funny I call myself the frog whisperer because frogs seem to vibe with me no matter what... Idk where you live, I read the captions and it said you were in Key Largo for this particular video iirc.... The reason I wound up searching for videos of people feeding iguanas in South Florida is because we are having the coldest temps of the winter months right now.. It should be in the mid to upper 30s here in a couple hours. Google News feed had an article about possible forecast for falling iguanas... it bothers me for any animal to suffer or deal with cold!!
Something that really upsets me...I've heard that some people will eat cooked iguana meat... so when these rare cold snaps happen, some south Floridians take advantage and grab immobilized iguanas and then kill/cook and eat them...the poor things!! 😢
I have 6 crested geckos as pets too but they're domesticated.. a former neighbor of mine, her girlfriend gave her some eggs...4...they hatched and she loved them but ultimately figured out she didn't have the time or care to keep cages clean etc.. so she gave them to me since she knows I'm the small critter whisperer!! I've yet to find an invasive Cane Toad yet...they're in South and probably a few here in Central Florida... I understand why people want to kill Cane Toads because they're so toxic, if one soaks in a water bowl of a person's pet dog outside..then the dog drinks the water it kills it.. I want ONE Cane Toad for a pet if I ever find one lol. As much as I love regular American Toads.. they don't make good pets...they're not happy being in a nice terrarium/tank even but the cuban frogs are happy to be kept I've never even seen a Cane Toad up close..just on videos and tv.. thanks for your replies!! ❤
Now we pray for the iguanas of South Florida that no one takes advantage of them tomorrow during the cold snap.. please Jesus hear our prayers!! In your name I pray, Amen.. and protect all animals, your creatures from abuse etc.. I'm not a vegan.. I eat some meat..not alot but... bless you Reptile Whisperer!! We are kindred souls ❤
Nice job domesticating him it’s not easy to do
